Comments (always a danger area – open to exploitation from journalists manque, often exhibiting a particularly grumpy brand of self-righteousness) are generally charming and enthusiastic. Only the odd misery-guts gets angry about the bit in the Mail where I slaughter my own bird – proof, apparently, of what a cruel and heartless person I am. I just wonder what these moralists think about the 830 million miserable industrial chickens electrocuted every year in this country, in order to fill our supermarket shelves…
